Oakland 7-Eleven hit by group of roughly 20 teens in latest of six reported incidents this year
A group of approximately 20 teenagers allegedly entered a 7-Eleven on International Boulevard in Oakland on Saturday afternoon, stole merchandise, and damaged the store, before some members of the group returned and attempted to re-enter, according to two store employees who spoke to KTVU.
Video of the incident showed the group rushing into the store around 4 p.m. on Saturday. Two employees described the individuals as appearing to be between 14 and 20 years old. They said the group stole several items and then ran outside, at which point workers locked the doors and called 911.
Shortly afterward, several people from the group allegedly returned and attempted to get back inside. One worker said a person ripped off the store's metal door handle and threw it through a glass door, striking store manager Sagar Sagar in the face. Sagar said members of the crowd were aggressive and verbally abusive toward him.
Employees described Saturday's event as the sixth violent incident at the location so far this year. The store has also been robbed previously. In September 2023, a man was found dead in the store's parking lot; Sagar said he discovered the body only hours after the store had been robbed on that occasion.
Employee Jasshan Singh said he was stocking shelves when the group rushed in. Franchise owner D.A. Brar was also described as having characterized the Saturday events as brazen and violent, according to the report.
