A judge agreed to drop the federal government's vandalism case against former U.S. Olympian David \"Davey\" Hearn and three others last week, after months of accusing them of damaging the Lincoln Memorial Reflecting Pool.
But Hearn's legal fight isn't over yet: Superior Court Judge Todd Edelman has yet to weigh in on whether it could potentially be reopened later.
\"We feel strongly this case should be dismissed for once and for all,\" Hearn's lawyer, Norm Eisen, told NPR's All Things Considered on Monday. \"Davey is an innocent man. He shouldn't have to go through this a second time.\"
\n
Prosecutors have sought the dismissal of the case \"without prejudice,\" allowing them to potentially refile in the future. Hearn's lawyers are asking the judge to dismiss his felony charge \"with prejudice,\" to close the case for good.
\"From day one, the case against Mr. Hearn was motivated by political considerations and devoid of adequate factual support,\" his lawyers wrote in a 28-page motion filed last week. \"Those political pressures have not dissipated in the mere four weeks since the government saw fit to obtain the indictment.\"
In the days since federal prosecutors moved to have Hearn's case dismissed, President Trump has railed against Jeanine Pirro, the U.S. attorney for the District of Columbia, accusing her of \"folding like an umbrella.\"
And he has repeated his claims that vandals damaged the lining of the Lincoln Memorial Reflecting Pool, contradicting evidence from Pirro's 20-page legal filing that blamed the peeling lining on \"botched installation.\"
\"A National Park Service career employee, a highly credible witness, saw David Hearn (ActBlue) in broad daylight vandalize the Reflecting Pool by 'violently' ripping and tugging at the Pool's somewhat delicate coating,\" Trump posted Sunday on Truth Social, wading back into the pool discourse even as he acknowledged \"there was also some contractor error.\"
\n
Speaking to NPR on Monday, Hearn described his ordeal as \"Kafkaesque\" and \"Orwellian.\"
\n
The experience has taken a toll on the 67-year-old, in terms of added stress and lost sleep. But it's also changed the way he sees the country that he represented in three Olympic Games, as a canoe slalom athlete in 1992, 1996 and 2000.
\"My confidence is being tested for sure here, in what our nation can withstand,\" Hearn said. \"But I don't think people are taking this lying down.\"
Hearn said he's buoyed by the support he's gotten from his lawyers, family and community, which includes \"paddling buddies,\" \"biking buddies\" and \"music and dance friends.\" His case has become a cause célèbre for people far beyond D.C., as the embattled reflecting pool has become a symbolic referendum on the Trump administration.
\"I think that that has really gripped the imagination and the sympathy of the nation,\" Eisen said. \"If it can happen to Davey, it could happen to you or me or anyone.\"

Hearn says he had a 'scientific curiosity' in the reflecting pool renovation
For Hearn, the fight isn't just about his future, but that of U.S. democracy.
\"I feel like I've been practicing democracy my whole life,\" he said. \"And being down at the reflecting pool on Juneteenth was part of that for me.\"
\n
The lifelong Maryland resident was on a group bike ride through the National Mall on June 19 when he stopped to look at the recently repainted Reflecting Pool.
He said he had heard reports about algae turning the water green and pieces of the new \"American flag blue\" lining peeling off. The pool recently had been refilled; Pirro's July filing cites Department of the Interior records indicating that personnel first flagged issues with the lining as early as June 11.
Hearn said he was interested in the controversial renovation project in part because of his longtime waterproofing business.

Hearn maintains that he dipped a hand into the pool and plucked out one of the floating paint pieces. He was promptly arrested and charged with destroying government property.
Hearn has consistently denied the allegations, which he said sting especially because of his deep-seated respect for national parks. He has been a National Park Service volunteer for the Chesapeake & Ohio Canal National Historical Park, which runs from D.C. to Maryland, for 20 years. His own father was a field geologist in Northern California and Montana.

\"You're supposed to leave nothing but footprints. That's all ingrained into my psyche from a very young age,\" Hearn said. \"So to be accused of damaging a national monument like this is completely outrageous for me.\"
A grand jury indicted Hearn on a single felony count of destruction of property worth $1,000 or more on July 2. He pleaded not guilty a week later, exiting the D.C. courthouse to a sea of sign-wielding supporters chanting \"Davey! Davey!\"
Hearn was facing a late September trial date, and the possibility of up to 10 years in prison if convicted, before prosecutors moved to have his case dismissed on July 31.

The U.S. Attorney's Office for the District of Columbia cited Department of the Interior records that showed damage to the reflecting pool was \"the result of botched installation and not vandalism.\"
\"It is difficult to attribute the widespread damage to the Reflecting Pool to vandalism, let alone to establish that fact beyond a reasonable doubt,\" Pirro wrote.
But just weeks earlier, Pirro — a Trump appointee — had announced at a press conference that \"the evidence shows … that Hearn willfully destroyed property at the Lincoln Memorial Reflecting Pool.\"

In an about-face, her filing blamed the Department of the Interior for withholding evidence that proved otherwise.

But Eisen said Hearn's legal time has filed \"motion after motion proving that the reflecting pool was the same before and after [he] touched it.\" He said they entered photographic proof as soon as the day after his first court appearance.
\"The Department of Justice finally came to their senses and dismissed the case,\" Eisen said. \"But the justification that they gave — that they didn't figure it out until the Department of the Interior told them — that does not hold water.\"
Hearn's lawyers want his case dismissed without prejudice, citing the \"risk of harassment and bad faith.\"
If not, they are asking the judge to review and potentially disclose materials from the grand jury proceedings against Hearn.
\"The grand-jury record bears further on the question now before the Court: whether the government obtained Mr. Hearn's felony indictment in a manner warranting dismissal with prejudice, that is, through a rushed and misleading presentation that disregarded the absence of evidence supporting any case against Mr. Hearn,\" they wrote.
Eisen said they are reviewing \"all legal remedies.\" Hearn has a status hearing scheduled for September on the dismissal question, and is feeling optimistic.
\"With the power of the law, the power of the courts, the judges and my wonderful team … I feel very well-equipped to contest this, to bring democracy back to me,\" he said.

The structure of the deal reflects Liverpool's need to solve an immediate problem rather than make a long-term commitment - at this stage.
They wanted a defender who could operate both at centre-back and right-back, and Araujo's versatility and physical profile made him an attractive option.
The timing is particularly significant. Conor Bradley, Joe Gomez and Giovanni Leoni are all injured, while new signing Jeremy Jacquet has yet to feature in pre-season.
With Ibrahima Konate leaving for Real Madrid in the summer, Virgil van Dijk is Liverpool's only fit senior centre-back, making the need for reinforcements increasingly obvious.
Liverpool still believe that their stock of centre-backs will serve them well for the coming season and beyond. Jacquet, Leoni, Mor Talla Ndiaye and Ifeanyi Ndukwe are all emerging players in the position.
But Araujo, with his strength, pace and experience at one of Europe's top clubs, was viewed as a player capable of helping Liverpool through that period. His leadership capabilities were also seen as a positive factor. He will wear the number 33 shirt.
At Barcelona, not only did his acceleration allow them to defend a high line with confidence but, at 6ft 4in (1.93m) tall, his frame made him a formidable presence in physical contests and aerial duels.
Araujo joined Barcelona from his native Uruguay in 2018, made his first-team debut the following October and has since gone on to make more than 200 appearances for the Catalan club.
He finished last season as captain, making 38 appearances for Hansi Flick's side in the 2025-26 campaign.
\"He is a very good person and an exceptional player, but our style of play is slightly different,\" Flick said in a recent press conference.
\"He is a footballer with great speed and power, and he is good with the ball at his feet, too. I wanted to get him involved; I think he is eager to try new things, and I believe he has also been affected by what happened in the past.
\"I said goodbye to him this morning and saw that he was happy. Liverpool is a great club, and I wish him the best. You have to accept it.\"
The \"past\" Flick may have been referring to includes a number of high-profile moments in which Araujo's mistakes came under intense scrutiny.
His red card against Paris St-Germain in the 2024 Champions League quarter-finals became one of the defining moments of his Barcelona career, with his dismissal helping turn the tie in PSG's favour.
He was also heavily criticised for mistakes in the second leg of the 2025 Champions League semi-final defeat by Inter, when Flick came out and publicly defended him.
Last season, in Barcelona's Champions League 3-0 away defeat by Chelsea, he was sent off just before half-time after receiving a second yellow card for a foul on Marc Cucurella.
A week after, he was granted a leave of absence to prioritise his mental health and received professional support and treatment to \"take care of himself emotionally\".
He returned a month later and made 23 appearances over the second half of the season, starting six matches.
There is also a financial benefit for Barcelona.
The club have been looking to generate a significant sale to help ease their financial pressures and, although this is only a loan with an option to buy, Liverpool will cover Araujo's full salary for the season. As one of Barcelona's highest earners, that represents a significant saving for the Catalan club.
For Araujo, though, he arrives at Anfield with an opportunity to reset his career and rediscover the confidence that once made him one of the club's most highly regarded defenders.

Stubbs and Marcus Stoinis were instrumental in pulling off the chase as they shared a 70-run stand for the fourth wicket.
Aussie all-rounder Stoinis whacked four fours and three sixes to make 46 off 25 balls before he miscued a full toss from Ben Sanderson in the penultimate set and was caught.

Donald Trump has said he will demand that Iran pay compensation for the deaths of thousands of US soldiers and Iran’s own civilians killed in recent decades in the latest sign his negotiations to end the war and reopen the Strait of Hormuz have reached an impasse.
The US president is trying to end conflicts in Iran, Gaza and Lebanon, and his additional demands of Iran are likely to provoke anger in Tehran at the same time as Israel has rejected Trump’s terms for a 15-point roadmap to end the war in Gaza.
In a post on Truth Social, Trump said he was issuing the demand for war reparations in response to Iranian negotiators making similar claims for damages for the five-month war that has killed thousands and devastated Iran’s military and economy.
“Now I am likewise demanding compensation from Iran, for all of the people that they have killed and gravely wounded with their roadside bombs and many conflicts, for which they are famous, as led initially by Gen Soleimani, including the families of those killed on the USS Cole, and thousands of others killed in combat,” he wrote on Truth Social.
“Additionally, compensation should be paid to the families of the hundreds of thousands of innocent protesters that Iran has killed over the last 50 years, not to mention the 52,000 that have been killed in the last five months.”
The demands are likely a nonstarter for Iran’s leaders in the careful peace negotiations aimed at reopening the strait of Hormuz, through which 20% of global oil trade flowed before the US and Israel launched joint strikes on Iran in late February. Trump and other senior negotiators have claimed many times that a deal is imminent, although none has materialised.
The remarks followed a series of setbacks for Trump’s efforts to end several Middle East conflicts before the upcoming midterm elections, in which high oil prices and inflation will probably hurt fellow Republicans at the polls.
On Sunday, Israel’s Benjamin Netanyahu said he rejected the Trump-backed Board of Peace’s 15-point plan to end Israel’s war in Gaza. Netanyahu had said Hamas must fully disarm before Israel would consider pulling out of Gaza, rather than the phased withdrawal proposed by the Board of Peace.
Netanyahu framed the decision as a rejection of US pressure on Israel to make peace in several wars in the Middle East. “Unlike all those who lecture us, we do what needs to be done for Israel’s security, and we can and know how to stand our ground, even against our best friends when necessary,” Netanyahu said.
Trump has not replied to Netanyahu’s statement, which was a remarkably public break between the leaders of the US and its closest ally in the Middle East. But in response to a shouted question in the Oval Office on Monday, he said his relationship with Netanyahu was “very good”.
Trump has sought to increase pressure on Iran. An hour after his first post demanding war reparations from Tehran, he broadened their scope to include the victims of recent wars throughout the region.
“Also, with respect to the Iran negotiations, Iran should be responsible for the damages and death caused to the people of Lebanon, Syria, Yemen, and Gaza!” he wrote.

A firefighting operation will continue into the night to quell a blaze which began on Sunday and has affected one square kilometre (250 acres) of the New Forest national park in Hampshire.
It began when a van caught fire on the A31 near Bratley Wood, forcing motorists to abandon more than 20 vehicles.
Lindsey Legg was with her husband and three children when they were forced to stop by police and leave their car. She said \"women and children were walking with buggies\" on the road and it had been \"pretty scary\".
National Highways said the A31 dual carriageway through the New Forest would remain closed in both directions until further notice.
Hampshire and Isle of Wight Fire and Rescue Service said more than 120 firefighters had been working \"in challenging conditions\" to contain the blaze.
Forestry England said the blaze was under control, but it expected the firefighting operation to continue for several days.

It said it was supporting the fire service with car park closures to make sure it had easy access to the area.
Spokeswoman Esta Mion added: \"There are still flames on site... but it is under control.
\"It's nowhere near as bad as it was at the height of the fire last night. But we are very much asking people to stay away... it's unpredictable.\"

The blaze was started by a van fire on the A31 which spread to Bratley Wood and the surrounding area, Forestry England confirmed.
Aerial footage of scorched vegetation showed how the fire funnelled outwards in a south-easterly direction as the wind fanned the flames.
Smoke from the blaze drifted across both sides of the Solent, prompting fire crews to urge people to keep doors and windows shut.

The fire service said an 8km (5-mile) hose had been laid from Hightown Lake, just east of Ringwood, to supply water to crews tackling the blaze.
In some areas, the hose crosses tracks and passes through private property and residents were urged not to drive over it to avoid causing damage.

Legg, who was travelling back to Bournemouth from Heathrow, told BBC Radio Solent: \"We started seeing people abandoning their cars. Women and children were walking with buggies.
\"Police told us 'you can't go any further'. We realised the fire was going through the field - it was pretty scary.
\"We had to abandon the car and cross the central reservation to get away from the side of the fire. We thought the car was going to go up at one point.\"

New Forest National Park Authority said the impact on the forest ecosystem and rare species would be severe.

Police said the 23 vehicles left behind by motorists were moved so they could be collected by the owners later.
National Highways said there was significant damage to the road surface and crash barrier following the fire and oil spillage from the burnt out vehicle.
It said there was no estimated time for reopening the road, which is a main tourist route to Dorset and south-west England.

President Trump signed another executive order aimed at trying to upend the way U.S. children are vaccinated against dangerous infectious diseases.
The new executive order, signed Monday afternoon in the Oval Office, calls for reducing the number of childhood vaccines recommended by the federal government.
It also calls for breaking up the shot known as the MMR, which is now given as a single vaccination for measles, mumps, rubella and chickenpox. The order advises breaking it up into separate shots.
The order also directs the Justice Department to pressure states to reduce the number of vaccines required for school.

The moves will likely be challenged in court, as previous similar attempts to change the childhood vaccination schedule have been.
At the signing ceremony, the president talked about vaccines needing to be studied in light of rising autism rates, a thoroughly studied and debunked theory.
The news was welcomed by vaccine critics and denounced by many public health experts.

MORGAN, Minn. — Among other politicians in T-shirts and jeans, candidate for governor Mike Lindell stood out in his dark suit and red tie.
The MyPillow founder was onstage at Minnesota Farmfest, a trade show that's a must-hit event for candidates in election seasons. The 65-year-old Minnesota native told the crowd in the barn-style building that he had an edge that his fellow candidates for governor lacked.
\"I have an advantage over everyone up here. I can call up and work with the president of the United States,\" Lindell said, generating some applause from the audience.
President Trump has never won the state of Minnesota in his three bids for the White House. More recently, his administration has targeted the state for Medicaid cuts and led the immigration enforcement surge that left two observers dead. Despite that, Lindell is running on a Trump-forward platform — and some polls indicate he could be leading in the primary.
Prominent state Republicans have raised questions
Lindell is a longtime Trump ally who joined the president in vocally denying the results of the 2020 election. He was sued for defamation by voting machine companies — including one case that was settled.
\"It's really not shocking to see that he has bucked the party in their endorsement process by choosing someone that he's got a close personal relationship with,\" said Minnesota-based Republican political strategist Preya Samsundar. \"I think it's more surprising that he did not choose a candidate who had an ability to win statewide.\"

Last week, the Minnesota Republican Party chair raised questions about Lindell's residency. A former party leader resurfaced allegations that Lindell physically abused a former girlfriend in a column published in the state's largest newspaper. Lindell has long denied that and said his residency is in order. He alleged the party leaders want him to lose.
\"It's a coordinated attack,\" Lindell told reporters. \"It started when I got the president's endorsement.\"
Several people picked up campaign signs and copies of Lindell's autobiography at the farm expo. Mary Jo Kukacka was one of them. She said she's praying for a Lindell win this week.
\"He's an honest individual, and he's not your typical politician promising you all kinds of stuff and not delivering,\" Kukacka said. \"He's not a polished spokesperson, and that I kind of like also.\"
Rival candidates include a state House speaker and an Army veteran
Back in the Farmfest pavilion, Lindell's rivals for the nomination talked about change during the candidate forum.
\"When I was on active duty as an artillery officer, when the conventional forces couldn't get it done, we brought in the special forces,\" said Kendall Qualls, the state Republican Party's endorsed candidate. \"We brought in something different. This is why we need different leadership in the state today.\"
Candidate Lisa Demuth touted her work leading a tied Minnesota House of Representatives as its speaker. She's led the GOP field in fundraising in the race.
\"Absolutely everything that we passed over the last two years had to be bipartisan. We have proven that we can do that here in Minnesota,\" Demuth said. \"And as your next governor, my proof is that I can lead this state.\"
Also on stage was the Republicans' likely Democratic opponent in the fall — U.S. Sen. Amy Klobuchar.
\"We do not need a governor who is a rubber stamp of Donald Trump. We need a governor who is going to put you first, who's going to put Minnesota first,\" Klobuchar said.

She chastised the trio of Republican candidates for failing to oppose Trump on tariffs, immigration policies and the war in Iran.

On a typical day, Alaska Airlines operates roughly 1,500 flights, most of them guided by a team of dispatchers on the sixth floor of an office building near the Seattle-Tacoma International Airport known as \"The Hub.\"
The dispatchers sit in a big open room, surrounded by as many as five flat-screen monitors that display real-time information on air traffic, weather, upper-level wind patterns and more.
It's a lot to process. But these dispatchers are getting some help from a software tool called Flyways AI.
\"It ingests all that information,\" said Alek Mead, a manager in Alaska's Network Operations Center, \"and it really kind of puts us all together in a nice little package for the dispatcher to look at, take some options, maybe play around with some different ideas, and then pick the most efficient and the safest route.\"
\n
When Alaska wanted to optimize its operations, it turned to a small startup called Air Space Intelligence. Now the Federal Aviation Administration has tapped the same company to carry out a major reboot of the entire U.S. airspace.
\n
The FAA wants to use technology — including artificial intelligence — to make the nation's airspace more efficient. And Flyways offers a glimpse of how that might look in practice.
Alaska was the first airline to start using the Flyways system back in 2021 to do things that would be challenging, if not impossible, for a human dispatcher working alone.
\"It doesn't decide the route or waypoints that a dispatcher uses to get an airplane from A to B, but it does help provide suggestions that might be more efficient,\" explained Capt. Bret Peyton, the managing director of Alaska's network operations control. \"That's where Flyways is really excelling for us.\"
Alaska says it's saving tens of thousands of hours in the air and roughly a million gallons of fuel per year because of Flyways.
The system works by basically crunching data on air traffic, wind, weather and other factors to anticipate what is going to happen during flight before it does.

\"It's actually a really fundamental change, a massive behavior change,\" said Phillip Buckendorf, the co-founder and CEO of Air Space Intelligence, the company that built Flyways, in an interview on the podcast Crossing the Valley last year.
\n
Buckendorf says his company worked closely with Alaska to build Flyways from the ground up. The company has since expanded to work with Delta Air Lines and United Airlines, as well as the U.S. Army and Air Force.
\"One of the hardest things is we're dealing with users that have basically made decisions against static displays for like 10, 20 years of their career. And so now they basically make a decision against a predictive picture,\" Buckendorf said.
Federal regulators are betting that predictive analytics can make the entire U.S. airspace work better, too.
\n
\"I think we've got a real opportunity to do something transformational with AI,\" said Bryan Bedford, the head of the Federal Aviation Administration, at an industry conference in May.
Bedford says the U.S. airspace is safe today because air traffic controllers make sure planes are separated from each other at every stage of their journey. But he says the current system is not as efficient as it could be.
\"What we're seeing is a system that is woefully unorganized,\" Bedford said. \"We don't have in any of our facilities the ability to see the entire national airspace picture in a unified way.\"

Bedford says predictive analytics can help prevent bottlenecks and congestion before they happen, with relatively small adjustments to schedules and routes.
The FAA is so convinced that it recently announced an $875 million contract with Air Space Intelligence to modernize the nation's airspace. The company is tasked with building what the agency is calling the SMART system, short for Strategic Management of Airspace, Routes, and Trajectories.
It's part of the Trump administration's ambitious push to deliver a Brand New Air Traffic Control System. FAA officials say the goal is to help air traffic controllers, not replace them.
But skeptics wonder if the technology can scale up from helping airline dispatchers to optimizing the entire U.S. airspace, which is the busiest and most complex in the world.

Bret Peyton at Alaska Airlines says dispatchers there were skeptical, too.
\"It took a while for us to convince the dispatch group that it is what we say it is, which is a decision-making aid, and not a tool that's going to run rogue and make weird decisions for the dispatcher,\" Peyton said. \"And it happened relatively quickly once dispatchers saw their true results that were pretty immediate.\"

The US State Department has revoked more than 175,000 visas from foreign nationals under President Donald Trump, as it continues a sweeping immigration crackdown that has stripped travel and immigration privileges from tens of thousands more people.
Most of the visa revocations stemmed from law-enforcement encounters involving criminal activity, alongside visa violations, fraud, calls for violence and other threats to national security, according to a fact sheet released by the department on Monday.
The extent of the revocations reflects the broad immigration crackdown initiated when Trump returned to the White House last year, deporting an unprecedented number of migrants including some who held valid visas.
“The revocations come as a result of the State Department’s continuous vetting operations, which ensure that visa recipients abide by the terms of their visa and do not endanger Americans,” the department said.
Assault, driving under the influence, theft and drug offences were among the leading reasons for the cancellations.
Specific cases cited by the department included a person charged with felony rape and sexual battery, another charged with kidnapping and human trafficking, and a person facing more than a dozen counts of possessing child sexual abuse material.
A US embassy in North Africa revoked more than 100 visas from “birth tourist” parents who allegedly came to the United States primarily to give birth so their children would receive US citizenship, it said.
Some of the revocations involved “foreign nationals who celebrated the assassination of Charlie Kirk, including one who stated ‘when fascists die, democrats don’t complain’ and another who said he ‘died too late’,” the statement said. Kirk was a popular conservative activist who was assassinated last year.
The department said the Trump administration would continue identifying and investigating foreign nationals who it believes threaten US safety or national security.
“A US visa is a privilege, not a right,” the State Department said, adding that it would continue using available authorities to revoke visas from people who abuse that privilege.
In January, the department said it had revoked more than 100,000 visas, a record at the time.
The administration has also adopted a stricter policy on granting visas, with tightened social media vetting and expanded screening.
Rights advocates and human rights experts have condemned the Trump administration’s social media screening efforts, which they say threaten free speech and are akin to surveillance and singling out of immigrants.

The pro-Kremlin nationalist party Rodina accused Yabloko of receiving undeclared campaign support, notably from Western sources – an allegation Yabloko denied.
Russia‘s Supreme Court has barred the only officially registered party opposing Moscow’s war in Ukraine from running in next month’s parliamentary elections.
The court upheld a suit on Monday brought by the small pro-Kremlin nationalist party Rodina to annul the registration of Yabloko, stripping voters of the chance to express their discontent with the four-and-a-half-year conflict at the ballot box.
Last month, the Central Election Commission had initially allowed Yabloko on the ballot along with 10 other parties.
“The claims seeking to annul the registration of the federal list of candidates for the State Duma of the ninth convocation, nominated by the Yabloko political party, were granted,” Judge Vyacheslav Kirillov said.
Rodina alleged that Yabloko had received undeclared campaign support, including from Western sources, among other accusations.
During a day-long hearing, Yabloko leader Nikolai Rybakov said there was no evidence to support the allegations and described the case as an unconstitutional attack on freedom of thought by political opponents seeking to clear the field of rivals.
About 100 supporters, mostly young people, gathered outside the courthouse as police stood by, chanting “Shame! Shame!” after the ruling was delivered. Some carried apples to display their affiliation with Yabloko, which means “apple” in Russian.
Addressing them after the hearing, Rybakov said the party would appeal the decision.
“We have a long way ahead, and we have a big and important task: to stop deaths and bring the peace back,” he said. “Everything we do should be dedicated to that.”
With most of President Vladimir Putin’s opponents jailed, exiled or dead, Yabloko is the only liberal party still operating in Russia.
The party has received the backing of several exiled opposition figures, including Yulia Navalnaya, the widow of the late opposition leader Alexey Navalny. Both are listed as “extremists” in Russia.
A poll conducted earlier this year showed Yabloko at just three percent support – short of the five-percent threshold needed to enter Russia’s lower house.
With the Kremlin tightening its control over elections, Yabloko has failed to win seats in the State Duma since 2003.
Since then, every parliamentary vote has been won by the ruling United Russia party, which backs Putin.
Efforts to end the Ukraine war through diplomacy have so far failed, with Putin pushing hardline territorial demands to end the fighting and ruling out talks with Ukraine’s President Volodymyr Zelenskyy.
Independent polls show most Russians favour peace negotiations with Kyiv.
